Helifly are eager to ensure that their aircraft are used efficiently and effectively. The reality is, however, that helicopter operations often involve the pilot flying ‘dead legs’. These are flown with an empty aircraft in order to reposition it for its next sortie. These flights burn around 70% of the fuel the aircraft would burn carrying passengers.
From both an environmental and commercial standpoint these flights are wasteful, but necessary. Helifly’s Jump Seat Programme aims to maximise aircraft usage by filling these seats and giving aviation enthusiasts a helicopter flight experience at a vastly reduced rate.
How does the Jump Seat Programme work?
When registering for the programme you will be asked to provide your postcode, an email address and mobile number. Should a ‘dead leg’ be flown to or from an area near your postcode then you and others will be sent a message informing you of the details and cost. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
The flights are generally one way and you are responsible for all transport arrangements and costs to the pick-up and from the destination.
Helifly is based primarily at Shoreham Airport and many of the Jump Seats will be to or from this airfield. Applicants living North of Birmingham are unlikely to receive Jump Seat notifications as the majority of our flying is South of Birmingham.
Give me an example?
Helifly recently picked up 3 lucky individuals from London Heliport (Battersea), flew them along the Thames down to Canary Wharf passing all the main London sights. From there we routed down towards Shoreham performing a Gatwick crossing on-route. The flight lasted 35-40 minutes and each individual paid £75. An absolute bargain and a fantastic experience!
How do I register for the Jump Seat Programme?
Those wishing to register for the Jump Seat Programme should register using the form opposite. A confirmation email will then be sent by return with the terms and conditions for the programme which needs to be signed and returned.
Once we have received your completed application your details will be entered onto our database and you will receive a confirmation e-mail.
